Welcoming Wayne to THOON 👏🏽

We were delighted to hold a pōwhiri to welcome several new kaimahi to Te Hau Ora o Ngāpuhi. First in our introductions is Wayne, who joins us as Pou Kāinga – Strategy and Integration, bringing a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to kaupapa Māori housing.
On his mother’s side, Wayne is from Ngāti Pou (Horahora Pā), Ngāti Mahuta (Wāhi Pā), and Ngāti Apakura (Pūrekireki Marae). His father is of Irish and English descent, and Wayne was raised in Katikati, where he still lives today. He’s a proud Pāpā and Koro to a blended whānau of five tamariki and two mokopuna.
While his formal training is in architecture, Wayne’s career has been firmly rooted in iwi and Māori development. Over the past decade, he has specialised in Māori housing, most recently working with Te Matapihi, the national peak body for Māori housing advocacy. In his new role, Wayne is dedicated to ensuring our whānau have access to healthy, affordable homes.
Alongside his mahi, Wayne is completing a PhD in Architecture, researching tangata whenua-led responses to the housing crisis. He is also a licensed BioGeometry practitioner, a holistic practice that uses nature’s design language to create spaces that nurture healing and wellbeing.
Nau mai, Wayne! We are fortunate to have you join our team.
Kia tū tika ai te whare tapu o Ngāpuhi.

Kapa Kōrero:
Our rōpū meets every Friday morning at the Kaikohe Bowling Club, bringing together new and familiar faces for relaxed activities and great kōrero. Ruby leads the way with her uplifting mahi, creating a space that is inclusive, welcoming, and full of connection.
This free weekly community gathering is open to all, nau mai, haere mai!
Ngāwhā Springs:
Our Kapa Kōrero rōpū recently enjoyed their first haerenga, spending a beautiful morning at Ngāwhā Springs. Those who attended soaked in the healing waters of Ruaumoko, with favourites such as The Doctor, Tāne Māhuta, and Solomon. The day was rounded out with healthy kai and wonderful company.
We look forward to many more haerenga together!

Cooking Classes:
On Wednesday, our whānau are coming together in Kaikohe for fun cooking classes, and the vibes have been amazing! From diabetes-friendly recipes to quick, healthy lunch ideas for tamariki, there’s something for everyone.
